The second skin
Latex Care & Dressing
A guide by Miss Pur · putting it on, shining it up & keeping it perfect
“Latex rewards patience. Take your time putting it on — and I’ll show you how to make it shine.”
— Vanessa PurLatex feels like a second skin — but it wants to be treated like one. With the right technique it goes on smoothly without tearing, shines like a mirror, and lasts for years. This practical guide covers the three things that matter: dressing, shining and cleaning & storage.
Putting latex on the right way
Use a silicone-based dressing aid or a little talc so the latex glides. Remove rings and watches, mind your nails, and ease it on slowly — never yank. Work seams into place gently and let the material settle rather than forcing it. Patience here prevents almost every tear.
Making it shine
The signature latex mirror shine comes from a silicone-based shiner applied with a soft cloth once the garment is on and smooth. A thin, even film is enough — too much just attracts dust. Matte latex stays matte; only glossy latex takes the full shine.
Cleaning, drying & storage
Wash with lukewarm water and a little mild, unscented soap; rinse and dry inside-out, away from heat and direct sunlight. When fully dry, dust lightly with talc and store flat or hung in the dark and cool. Keep latex away from metal (copper, brass) — it can stain permanently.
| Step | Do | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Dressing | Silicone lube or talc, go slow | Nails, jewellery, yanking |
| Shining | Thin silicone shiner, soft cloth | Too much product |
| Cleaning | Lukewarm water, mild soap | Hot water, solvents |
| Storage | Dark, cool, talc-dusted | Sunlight, metal contact |

“No guide replaces the moment latex begins to move and shine. See it up close — the pull, the gloss, the sound.”
