Ulorin Vex

Christiane Shillito, known professionally by her stage name Ulorin Vex, is an English alternative model, illustrator, and performance artist. Born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, she gained prominence in the mid-2000s within alternative subcultures, particularly for her work in gothic, pin-up, and latex fashion. She later relocated to Los Angeles, California, where she expanded her portfolio into mainstream fashion campaigns, fine art modeling, and visual illustration.

Early Life and Education

Shillito was raised in Newcastle upon Tyne in the North East of England. She pursued higher education at Durham University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science (BSc Hons) in Natural Sciences. Following her academic studies, she began modeling in London, initially focusing on alternative fashion, avant-garde design, and subculture editorial projects before moving to the United States.

Modeling and Media Career

As a model, Ulorin Vex established a strong presence across international publications and subculture events. She appeared on the covers and inside features of magazines such as Bizarre, Skin Two, Gothic Beauty, and Elegy. In addition to subculture outlets, she featured in global commercial campaigns for hair care brand TIGI Bed Head, as well as editorial features in Dazed & Confused and Vice. She frequently collaborated with fashion designers, serving as the inspiration for the “Vex” outfit created by designer Kate Lambert for Steampunk Couture. In 2008, she joined musician Emilie Autumn’s live backing performance group, The Bloody Crumpets, participating in international touring and appearing in the music video for “Fight Like a Girl”.

Artistic Endeavors and Personal Life

Alongside her modeling work, Shillito is an active visual artist and illustrator under the alias Malady Charlotina. Her drawings and mixed-media artwork have been exhibited in gallery settings, including a solo exhibition at the Erotic Heritage Museum in Las Vegas in 2015. In September 2011, she married photographer Allan Amato; the couple separated in 2016. She continues to reside in Los Angeles, maintaining her creative work across illustration, fine art modeling, and fashion design collaborations.
